I made a run from my home in Redlands to the Palm Springs airport yesterday. Nothing terribly exciting but here are some details for any who are interested. The route follows Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio pass. It’s only 53 miles but there are some elevation changes to deal with. On the way out, I recharged at the top of the pass in Banning in case I had trouble finding a charge station in Palm Springs. I needn’t have worried. Lots of charging stations there. No stops on the return trip. Going both ways I paced on the slower traffic for efficiency. No use of A/C or heat. Next time I'll record the miles/kwh.

Leg 1: Redlands to Banning
Temperature: 67 degrees
Distance: 20 miles
Elevation change: +1,200’
Initial state of charge: 98%
State of charge on arrival: 68%
Charged at San Gorgonio Hospital (free Level 2 chargers) to 99% (1 hour)

Leg 2: Banning to Palm Springs airport
Temperature: 67 degrees
Distance: 33 miles
Elevation change: -2,200’
Initial state of charge: 99%
State of charge on arrival: 82%
Charged at the City Hall next to the airport (free Level 2 chargers) to 99% (45 minutes)

Leg 3: Palm Springs airport back to Redlands
Temperature: 75 degrees
Distance: 53 miles
Elevation change: +2,200’ then -1,200’
Initial state of charge: 99%
State of charge on arrival: 30%
Note: strong headwinds
