Lebanon Valley Dragway held it's first Wednesday night "Test and tune" event of the season last week and I took my Fit EV down there to try to improve on my personal best 1/4 mile run of 16.31 @ 84.76 mph, with a 2.559 sec 60 foot time. I mounted a pair of [1.4"] shorter 205/50R15 front tires to effectively lower the gear ratio for better acceleration. I also did some minor aerodynamic tweaks by removing the side mirrors and adding a temporary grill block. It worked as planned and my new record is now 16.14 @ 84.99 mph. My new best 60 foot time is 2.497 sec. Not that any other Fit EV owner is trying, but mine is clearly the quickest one in the country right now - maybe the world. [lol].

Mike,

That is so cool, 16.14 seems so incredibly close to the 15s! I love hearing and seeing the mods you made to improve your time.

Do you do anything special for tire pressures, front and rear?

Mike

Thank you Mike, I run them all high @ 50 psi during the timed runs. I drop them back down before going home though. One other note about the shorter front tires, because they spin at higher rpm at 84.99 mph than the original tires, they fool the computer into thinking that the car is going 90 mph. I felt the speed limiter kick in at the finish line. So I will be using the stock tires again next time so I will have some room for improvement in my mph.

Very cool. It would be interesting to see how your Fit EV would do at someplace like Bandimere. 5800' above sea level means much thinner air with no horsepower penalties experienced by ICE's.

I agree Gary. In fact one of my ideas for picking up a little more speed is to go again on a hot night in July, when the air is less dense here in NY. Our track here is only at 660' though.

Hey Mike-

Did you see this article? http://www.greencarreports.com/news/109 ... s-quickest

So... what do you think of the rankings?

Mike

Yes thanks Mike. I think the rankings are basically right. The LEAF and 500e are both a bit quicker than Antony suggested though.
