Post subject:  Bolt EV

After being rear ended in June and having my FIT EV taken away, I have replaced my FIT EV with a Bolt EV. This is my very first American Car. I have always owned Honda and Toyota. I was somewhat nervous but I think there is much less that can go wrong with an EV.

I have had this car since July and so far have been very impressed with the battery. I have noticed that the FIT EV battery degraded significantly when driving on highways and even more significantly in cold weather.

The Bolt EV seems to have overcome this problem on highway driving as it seems to have less degradation in highway driving. Last night was our first cold spell (well 29 degrees). I charged the car and this morning it had 238 mile range on it. In the summer It could sometimes charge to 260 or 270.

As I recall the FIT would have gone from 110 in the summer to about 60 at 30 degrees. When it got down to 10 degrees, we only had about 20 miles.

Anyway, I am very happy with the Bolt. Doubling the range really makes this car much more useful.

Thank you for the follow up on how you're enjoying your Bolt EV Pete. It's about 1.5 years later so how is it going and do you have any complaints? I hear that the seats in the LT model are cheaply made and not very comfortable.

Incidentally, now is a really good time to buy a Bolt EV. Chevy's federal tax credit is about to be halved in three weeks. So Chevy dealers want to get rid of them before that happens and they are dealing.

People are reporting getting a Bolt LTs with DC charge package and convenience package [includes heated steering wheel] for $32-k out the door in some areas. A member of the Kona EV group said this today: "The Kona is better than the Chevy Bolt, but when I was offered a Bolt at $10k below MSRP, I had to go with the Bolt. The Kona isn't $10k better than a Bolt."

Long time reader of this forum - rarely post.

I am also driving a LT Bolt (DC/comfort package) for past several months; will be returning my beloved 6-yr FIT EV next month.

1) yes, the LT Bolt seat(s) are hard and not very comfortable.
2) the front driver window is a one-touch roll-up, roll-down - often it's frustrating to open up partially
3) the Bolt drives like a slightly heavier car vs. go-kart FIT EV

But on the plus side:
1) the dimension(s) of both cars are about the same - visibility is great.
2) zero mechanical, hardware issue(s) so far
3) for the same charging station - I notice the on-board Bolt charger can charge just slightly faster
4) for my mostly city driving - average of 4.7miles/kWh
5) no range anxiety

Thank you very much for that review persimmontree.

I am glad to have read about your perceptions and comparing the two cars.
